GOVERNANCE

• The Lasallian Trust of Singapore (LTS) is a registered charity set up by the Sector of Singapore of the De La Salle Brothers. It reports to the Brother Visitor, who leads the Brothers in the region. Led by a Board of Trustees, LTS gives the Lasallian mission a lasting structure to strengthen and advance it in Singapore. It also strengthens the Lasallian network in Singapore and keeps its resources well managed to sustain the Lasallian mission, all in line with our One La Salle vision.

Key Functions

• Supporting Lasallian spiritual formation and educational programmes to foster and nurture Lasallian identity, values and charisms across our Lasallian entities.

• Providing guidance and support in governance and strategic oversight to all Lasallian entities, including the move towards a One La Salle vision and a coherent, consistent formation and governance framework.

• Stewarding all assets and properties owned by the De La Salle Brothers, including intellectual property, so that they are managed prudently in service of the Lasallian mission.

• Appointing senior leaders and board members in the Lasallian entities, together with the Brother Visitor.

BROTHER VISITOR

Within the Lasallian community, Singapore institutions and entities belong to the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD). In addition to Singapore, the other countries in LEAD include Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines and Thailand. Brother Visitor is the major superior for all De La Salle Brothers within LEAD.

In Singapore, the Christian Brothers’ Schools Visitor Ordinance 1915 was enacted by the Governor of the Straits Settlements to incorporate the Brother Visitor as a corporate body. The Brother Visitor oversees the Lasallian schools in Singapore, including holding and managing property and visiting and inspecting schools.

Roles and Responsibilities of Brother Visitor

The Brother Visitor oversees the governance of LEAD, ensuring that its schools, institutions and ministries are operating effectively to fulfil the Lasallian mission aligned with the Lasallian principles and in compliance with Canon Law. He also provides strategic direction for LEAD, working with the District Council and other stakeholders to set goals and priorities. He makes regular visits to Lasallian schools, institutions and ministries in LEAD to stay connected and provide support to the De La Salle Brothers and Lasallian communities.
